On the last day of 2020, I know many of us were sighing relief, and then some of us were holding our breath in anticipation of what 2021 will bring. And yet, while I personally experienced increased stresses, much good came out of last year.
To name a few: I moved back to San Diego and am now in daily contact with my daughter and my grandsons, sharing their space by living in the Hinterhaus (a tiny back house). I offer my support during the time of my son-in-law’s deployment by sharing grocery shopping, meal prep, doing dishes, walking the dogs, and just plain hanging out. I’ve watched many movies. I start my day by feeding the chickens, and I am building a garden with my daughter outside my door. I see my son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters at least once a week. The girls and I have a lot of playtime at parks and even spontaneous hikes, sometimes with the boys in tow. One of my most memorable events was our family camping trip to Sequoia National Forest. I not only hugged a redwood, but I also heard one fall while meditating one morning. I witnessed a shower of pine cones that fell to the ground after the morning sun warmed them.
2020 was also the year that I increased my spiritual practice by meditating more, reading spiritual texts, and practicing the Wim Hof Method––breathing and cold showers (no plunges yet). I’m refining what I eat and drink by being disciplined 90% of the time. I allow myself to digress when celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and our close circle of friends. I’m doing more yoga, cycling, and weights, thanks to the Peloton app gifted to me by my son. I reconnected with my naturopath, Dr. Brooke Leverone, and we came up with a plan to enhance my vitality to support me during times of great change.
My business vision expanded, prompted by my guidance and supported by my mentors, Laurie Seymour, Pete Winiarski, and David Tweedt. My friends also cheered on a huge move — the debut of A Writable Life Publishing.
The downside of 2020: increased racial tension, disruptive political moves born out of greed and ego, and the pandemic which has needlessly claimed so many lives. My heart aches for those directly affected — and as a result, makes me ask: what role do I play in compounding or perpetuating the misery. I miss many of my friends from Colorado, and at the same time, I’m more intentional about reaching out for Zoom coffee or happy hour. I long for travel — oh, the wanderer in me wants to hop on a plane and fly fish in warm, tropical waters. And like many others, I have added a few covid pounds. However, over the last few days, I’ve been juicing, so my body feels lighter. And soon, I’ll do a 10-day metabolic cleanse, followed by Dave Asprey’s Fast Challenge beginning on January 19.
So my intention for 2021: Be more deeply connected with Spirit, trust myself and the guidance I receive, and contribute to the healing and hope for all those on our planet through my actions––as a mom and grandmother, a friend, a colleague, and a mentor.
